Fundraising is an essential process for any organization that wishes to promote their worthwhile cause to the general public. By fundraising, not only are you making others aware of the goals you are trying to accomplish; you are also increasing your chances of attracting potential donors who share your sentiments and want nothing more than to support you in your efforts. One, however, must be realistic throughout this entire process and acknowledge the fact that although some individuals will gladly offer donations, there are many more who are not willing to do so. This may cause one to wonder why people are not showing any interest towards their organization and their cause. The following ideas are possible explanations as to why this occurs.
Despite the good intentions of you and your cause, many people will not donate due to disinterest. To help improve the chances of making your fundraiser a successful one, you must promote your cause to those who either have some sort of emotional attachment towards your organization or have openly expressed an interest in the objectives of your organization. If operating at the local level (such as a school or community-based and operated group), consider focusing all your fundraising efforts on local residents. If operating at the national level, then draw all of your attention towards those who have a history of donating either to your group or to groups sharing similar interests as yours. This makes an excellent fundraising idea. Remember to do your research; keep in mind, however, that this will not guarantee the success of your fundraiser.
Nearly everybody toils everyday to earn an income with which they can support themselves. Due to this fact, most people are unwilling to spend any of their hard-earned cash on something which seems to be a waste of money. In this case, enlighten potential donors in a polite and professional manner of your organization, what your group is trying to accomplish and how your cause can prove to be beneficial to said donors as well as the general public. Inform them that any donation, regardless of amount, will help out greatly in your efforts. Attempt to get as little as possible as opposed to getting as much as possible since people are obviously less willing to spend more than less. Also, when requesting donations, do so in an undemanding way so that donors feel unobligated to do so; this extra freedom surprisingly goes a long way.
There are many non-profit organizations requesting donations, some more renowned than others. Prospective donors may tend to offer their donations to these popularized groups instead of yours. Consider partnering with another organization, preferably a well-known one, that both shares the same objectives as yours and that the public will recognize so that they feel more confident and less reluctant in supporting your cause. If possible, publicly campaign your cause through mediums such as television, radio and the internet to attract a greater audience. Name recognition plays an important role in today’s society, so use this to your advantage.
