We held an event like this last winter and are planning our next event, the way we had it set up was that there were several tables, each table had one prize to win from one of our advertisers ($300-$700 value) so that there was one winner from each table. It was a small event we had 5 tables with 6-8 people at each table. we did a $30 buy in for entrance fee that was donated to a charity. This year we are expecting 50-60 players and thinking of doing a similar event but with multiple prizes at each table with the buy in being the fund raising for the charity. Facility, food, drinks, tables, dealers, are all provided free. The dealers will be the advertiser giving the prize at their own table. It's all around good PR/marketing for them, especially since they get to meet new potential clients.

There are three ways to address this.

1) Instead of a raffle, use a high tally system where at the end of the casino, dealers give the players vouchers for their chips. Prizes are given to the highest voucher holders.

2) Use the 'pick a prize' raffle system where each prize has its own ticket pool (bowl, box, etc) and the players can put all their tickets into the prize they desire which will vastly increase their chances of winning that prize.

3) Use a combination of high-tally and raffle. Maybe the grand prize goes to the big winner of the casino and all other prizes are raffled off in either a straight raffle or a pick a prize raffle.

Hope this helps

At our last year's Casino night, the gamblers traded in their chips for raffle tickets and then there was the drawing for donated items. Those who had won big in the casino night but were then unlucky in the raffle felt cheated. Any ideas on how to better address this. Would you suggest cashing in casino chips for "script" then using the script to bid on auction items?

I think that this is a great idea for a fundraiser. I am going to try this fundraiser for our rotary organization and see if we can raise funds for our new year. This looks like it will be fun and not too hard!

What about the legality of this? Is there a limit the percentage of money an organization can make relative to their total operating expense and still be tax free / legal and not considered a speakeasy casino?
